RTP and volatility in plain English

A theoretical return is a long-run game design measure, not a session forecast.

What RTP describes

Return to player is a theoretical proportion of total stakes returned across very large numbers of plays under a particular game configuration. NetEnt lists 96.08% for its Starburst page; another operator version may differ, so check the in-game information.

A simple illustration

At 96% theoretical RTP, £100 of aggregate stakes corresponds to £96 of theoretical returns and a £4 theoretical difference. One person staking £100 can receive much more, much less or nothing. This calculation is not an expected session outcome.

Volatility changes distribution

A high-volatility game can concentrate returns in rarer outcomes; a lower-volatility game tends to distribute them differently. The RTP alone cannot tell you the chance of a particular bonus round or how much cash you will finish with.

Use the exact title

Book of Dead and later Dead-series games, or Big Bass Bonanza and Big Bass Splash, are separate versions with different features. A statistic from one must not be copied into another.

Questions, answered

Does 96% RTP promise £96 back on £100?

No. It is a long-run theoretical game figure, not a personal return.

Can the same game have a different RTP?

Some operators may use different approved versions; read the in-game information.
